Question

Q: Can you open SSH access to my workstation from the Internet?

A: Unfortunately no, we cannot. However, many departments have allowed primary users to have SSH access to their workstations via the shell server taltta.org.aalto.fi so please try that before you contact servicedesk@aalto.fi.


Question

Q: How about VNC or TeamViewer?

A: No we cannot do that either. Please use either the VDI environment or see the instructions for using workstations and their software remotely.

Question

Q: Pkcon prompts for a root password and I can't install software. What's wrong?

A: For one reason or another you are not the primary user of the workstation you are running pkcon on. If you feel you should be the primary user or that you should be able to install software on the computer, please contact the department IT admin or servicedesk@aalto.fi.

Q: I keep losing access to my home or work or teamwork directories. What's happening?

A: Please check out the instructions and material on Kerberos tickets and try running kinit. If this does not fix the situation, please contact servicedesk@aalto.fi.
